Malaysia is rapidly embracing electric vehicles (EVs), with EVs projected to account for 20 per cent of the total industry volume (TIV) for passenger and commercial vehicles by 2030. According to the Malaysia’s Official Open Data Portal, the number of EVs on the road has risen sharply, from over 3,000 units in 2022 to more than 13,300 units in 2023, and reaching almost 22,000 units in 2024. To support the growth of EV adoption in Malaysia, the government is also targeting the installation of 10,000 EV chargers nationwide by 2025.

For over a decade, Continental has led the way in developing advanced tyre solutions for electric vehicles (EVs). Leveraging German technology and strong R&D, it addresses EV-specific needs such as higher load capacity, low noise levels, and smooth performance.

Drawing on its extensive experience, Continental ensures that all its tyres across various segments are specifically designed to be fully compatible with EVs and tailored to meet their unique performance requirements. For example, MaxContact MC7 emphasises precise control and handling; while the UltraContact UC7 isfor those seeking both comfort and outstanding wet braking. The EcoContact EC6/EC6 Q is designed to maximise energy efficiency, extending the driving range on a single charge.

“As we witness a transformative shift towards electric mobility, Continental remains committed to leading the way with innovative tyre solutions. Our product line-up caters to a variety of vehicles, including fuel-powered, hybrid, and fully electric, and incorporates advanced technologies tailored to ensure every Malaysian experiences a drive defined by safety, comfort, and efficiency,” said Andrea Somorova, Managing Director of Continental Tyre Malaysia.

For Malaysian EV owners, understanding tyre compatibility is crucial. To ensure a tyre is suitable for an electric vehicle, consumers should look for features such as load and speed indexes of the tyre to handle the increased vehicle weight, traction and grip, and designs that maximise energy efficiency.
