Launching Ceremony of the KITS Style Prepaid Mastercard

Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB), in collaboration with Mastercard, marked a significant milestone with the launch of the KITS Style Prepaid Mastercard, introduced alongside the new KITS Style digital lifestyleapp. The launch was officiated by Datuk Azlan Shah Al Bakri, KTMB group chief executive officer and Timothy Murphy, vice chair of Mastercard.

The KTM-Mastercard co-branded card is a lifestyle transit prepaid card designed for transit and daily spending. Available in both virtual and physical formats via the KITS Style app, the card enables seamless, secure and interoperable payments across KTM services, and other additional public transport networks.

The introduction of the card, together with the KITS Style app, represents a key milestone in KTMB’s broader digital transformation agenda — strengthening its role not only as a national rail operator, but also as a catalyst for financial inclusion and smarter mobility solutions for Malaysians.

For passengers, the prepaid card offers a faster and more convenient commuting experience through seamless “tap and go” access, wide merchant acceptance and secure EMV-enabled transactions. It also expands access to digital payments by enabling unbanked and underbanked Malaysians – including students and underserved communities, to participate in the digital economy without the need for a traditional bank account.

The integrated KITS Style ecosystem provides access to transport services, bill payments, travel bookings, and lifestyle offerings within a single application.

Enabling a ‘Tap and Go’ Future for the People

With one card, passengers can simply tap and go:

  • on KTM Komuter
  • on other public transport operators adopting open payments
  • and eventually across toll networks as Malaysia moves to full open payment integration

“By integrating open payments and digital lifestyle services into a single platform, we are not only enhancing the travel experience but also empowering more Malaysians to participate in the digital economy. Through our collaboration with Mastercard, we are building a future-ready rail network that is smarter, more connected, and more responsive to the evolving needs of our passengers nationwide,” said Datuk Azlan Shah Al Bakri, group chief executive officer of KTMB.

“Transit is one of the most frequent daily transactions people make, so enabling digital access there can accelerate broader participation in the digital economy,” said Beena Pothen, country manager, Malaysia & Brunei, Mastercard.
