For many, the idea of a startup conjures up romantic notions of young and innovative entrepreneurs taking huge risks and making it big with its typical rags to riches narrative. However, the perception of being an entrepreneur is often very different from the reality. Prospective entrepreneurs can be in for a rude shock when they learn that it is not as easy or as glamorous as they expected it to be. Successful founders put in a lot of effort to start a successful business, and most definitely with a fair bit of hardship. So how can one be more prepared for the rope learning or discern if entrepreneurship is even the right calling?
In an effort to drive digital transformation and nurture entrepreneurship, Penang’s latest co-working space provider, WorkzSpace, has teamed up with BizTech Times to initiate a Tech Start-Up Dialogue Series.
Tech Start-Up Dialogue Series will be a regular conversation platform where founders share their journey in nurturing and growing their ventures through digitalisation. The dialogue is designed to bring to light the real issues and challenges faced among start-ups and to draw inspiration and support from each other.
“Being Digital Penang’s ecosystem partner, WorkzSpace is committed to widening digitalisation outreach, nurturing tech startups, as well as enabling collaboration across multiple stakeholders in Penang,” said Phuah Ken Bin, founder and chief marketing officer of WorkzSpace.
“We believe in facilitating frank conversations that will bring up the tough lessons learnt as well as practical advice on steering a startup to higher growth from funding to scaling their business, amidst talent shortage and stiff competition,” added Phuah.
The inaugural Start-Up Dialogue Series #1, to be held on 5 August 2023, will feature a panel of three Penang-based entrepreneurs who will share their journey from ideation to business formation, growth and maturity, as well as insights and strategies on funding and leveraging communities to drive business success.
The panel consists of ADA Biotech’s CEO Muhammad Akmal Bin Amir, Re. Crave’s Founder Yung Kun, and Spots Logistics’ CEO Khoo Kay Sen, each from a different industry sector to share their personal stories and give participants a wider perspective.
ADA Biotech Sdn Bhd was founded in 2019 and manufactures biodegradable products made of waste rice, broken rice, and low-grade tapioca. Re. Crave sets out to revolutionize gift-giving experience through digital technology including artificial intelligence, and to create more meaningful connections with customers. Meanwhile, Kulim-based Spots Logistics is an online network that connects Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) with reliable shippers using cost-effective methods.
