Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) successfully hosted the Malaysia Digital (MD) Tech Adoption Summit: Artificial Intelligence (AI) recently, marking the first in a series of high-impact events aimed at accelerating AI adoption across industries.

Officially launched by Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo, the MD Tech Adoption Summit reinforces MDEC’s role as a critical enabler in Malaysia’s journey towards becoming the digital hub of ASEAN and contributes directly to the goals of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), targeting a 30% increase in productivity through AI-driven solutions. It also solidifies the government’s role as a facilitator of Industry 4.0 transformation, supporting Malaysia’s ambition to position itself as a global leader in the digital economy.

The summit also aligns with Malaysia’s broader goals under the Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint (MyDIGITAL), which seeks to transform Malaysia into a digitally driven, high-income nation. It serves as a catalyst for cross-industry collaboration, bringing together entrepreneurs, startups, industry leaders, policymakers, academics, and other key players in the digital economy. The event provided a vital platform for showcasing breakthrough AI innovations, fostering business connections, and promoting the widespread adoption of AI technologies across diverse sectors.

As Malaysia continues its rapid digitalisation, AI adoption is key to unlocking the country’s future potential. From personalising customer experiences to optimising supply chains and improving decision-making, AI is positioned to bring transformative economic benefits to Malaysia, with experts forecasting it could contribute up to USD 1 trillion to the region’s GDP by 2030.

“Artificial Intelligence (AI) not only creates new roles across sectors, but also enhances existing jobs, demanding a workforce with higher-level skills.  By 2030, AI is expected to generate US$113.4 billion in productive capacity for Malaysia. Such contribution to Malaysia’s national GDP demonstrates AI’s potential across multiple sectors from manufacturing, healthcare, finance to public services,” said Gobind Singh Deo.

AI adoption promises a significant impact across all levels of the business ecosystem. SMEs stand to benefit from enhanced productivity, reduced operational costs, and access to cutting-edge AI tools, enabling them to stay competitive in a rapidly evolving market. Large enterprises can harness the power of AI to optimise large-scale operations, leveraging predictive analytics, automation, and AI-driven insights to enhance efficiency and growth.

MDEC remains committed to fostering growth through its diverse initiatives, providing incentives, governance frameworks, and strategic support to ensure the continued advancement of Malaysia’s digital economy.
